Marianne is a former Stegner Fellow in Creative Writing at Stanford, and has been writing and publishing stories about the Philippines and Filipino Americans since the mid 1980s. She is author of Ginseng and Other Tales from Manila, finalist for the Philippines' National Book Award, and The Mayor of the Roses: Stories. Her work, which has appeared in Isotope, ZYZZYVA, The Chattahoochee Review, and Puerto Del Sol, has been short-listed for the O. Henry Literature Prize and nominated for the Pushcart.

The House Remembered

A photographer walks in to a writer’s home and intuitively captures her unstaged domestic environment. The writer responds to the images with short prose evoking recollections of death, life, her son’s childhood and domesticated dogs.
